| URBINO:
the city of engraving The city of Urbino offers the ideal
setting for artists and their creative process. Here they
have the opportunity to make contact with the great engraving
masters of the past through the State Art Institute "Scuola
del Libro", the Academy of Fine Arts, the art printing workshops
and the printing press manufacturer's. The beauty of this
city, its intimate size, the surrounding green hills, the
peaceful pace of life continuously enlivened by the multitude
of young students
who
come to study here, astonishes both casual visitors and researchers
who find the ducal city the perfect environment in which to
elaborate and perfect their studies. This historical-cultural
setting is home to KAUS, the Keishiro Art Association of Urbino,
founded with the aim of developing and promoting the art of
engraving on a national and international level. The name
was chosen as homage to the Japanese artist Keishiro
Handa,
whose presence in Urbino was one of the most significant in
recent years. In the silence of his work Keishiro Handa was
inspired by our city to create countless engravings of great
artistic value. The Association manages the INTERNATIONAL
CENTRE FOR ARTISTIC ENGRAVING and, thanks to the support of
the Council of Urbino and Urbino's State Art Institute "Scuola
del Libro", the Academy of Fine Arts and the Technical College
of Industrial Art (ISIA), KAUS has already formed collaborations
with the Alexandrian Library in Alexandria, Egypt, with professors
from the art academies of Milan (Brera), Krakow, Sarajevo,
Mexico City, Katowice, Bologna, Lecce, Turin, Ljubljana, and
Vilnius and the Visual Art Departments of the Universities
of Alexandria, Valencia and Yamagata, together with public
and private institutions in Bulgaria, Denmark, Belgium, Germany,
Spain and Switzerland. |

| STUDY
GROUPS |
| The
workshop is available for use by classes from national and
foreign schools (colleges, universities, engraving groups
or associations, etc). We also organize guided visits and
thematic itineraries relating to engraving and other subjects
of special interest that may benefit our guests. |
|
| INDIVIDUAL
STUDENTS |
| The
Centre is available for personal or targeted work and for
innovative or historical research. We offer students the possibility
of meeting engraving masters from Urbino and studying Urbino's
patrimony of 18th Century engravings and old plates. We assist
students in making contact with the local art institutes such
as the State Art Institute, the Technical College of Industrial
Art and the Academy of Fine Arts and introduce them to some
of the most prestigious Italian and international art academies
and art departments. We organize visits to art printing workshops
and to Urbino's engraving museum and make available the teaching
material of the International Centre for Artistic Engraving.
On finishing their work in Urbino, students may publish a
catalogue, stage personal exhibitions or participate in group
exhibitions. |
